Filter question

The hydraulic fluid filter on my 1963 Allis Chalmers D17 needs replaced. The prior owner bent the filter trying to replace it but couldn't get it off. It has a pin hole in it now. All the research i have done on says a Wix 51258 filter will work but that is an oil filter. I thought it would need a hydraulic filter. What works and will not cause damage to the system?

Welcome to the forums.

Oil filters are lube filters and they were used on hydraulics in some applications.

A 1963 should be a Series 3. The online parts book shows two possibilities. 70237000 for serial number prior to 68628 or 70239930 for serial number 68628 and after. If one of the earlier ones has had the filter base changed it uses the later filter. 70237000 crosses to a Wix 51515 and the 70239930 crosses to a 51049. According to the Wix site the 51515 has 3/4-16 threads and the 51049 has 13/16-16 threads. Is there a number on the filter on it now?

There is nothing on the filter. It has the later serial number that starts with 69
