Final drive torque for allis B

Freewheelin

I put new cork gaskets on the final drive pan on my IB. Torques to 7 ft/lbs. Right side is fine but left side leaks. Retorqued to 9 ft/lbs. What's the max I can go with distorting the pan or messing up the gasket? I don't like using RTV.

just tighten by feel. nothing is saying that them bolts need to be torqued.u can tell with a 3/8 rachet when the bolts are tight, and the gasket not squishing out. plus use permatex high tack sealer on both sides of the gasket. i hate silicone also. plus make sure the pan is not damaged from being over torqued.

Thanks Rusted. I probably use a torque wrench more than a lot of folks just to be consitatant on all the bolts and to get some idea of how far I've gone. I had to fix (file) some damage on this pan like most everything else the previous owner touched so I wasn't sure of the seal. I don't use sealer unless I have to just because I've cleaned up more messes from that stuff than I can count. Anyway, 9 lbs almost did it so I went to 10 and called it good. Thanks again.
