Finishing up the Beans

Just thought I would post some pics of what I did today. My dad and I finsihed up our beans today after we put the back tire back on the combine as the bearing failed last night and it fell off in the field on us. Luckily our dealer has 24 hour emergency service and we got the parts late last nihgt to get it going again. Had to get enough cut to load my cousins rig when he comes to the farm tomorrow. The engine in our KW is having issues right now and we can't run it. The radiator just about emptied itself into the crankcase, so it's not good. Anyhow here is some of the pics. I also snapped a few of our neighbor cutting buckwheat with their Gleaner as well and thought I'd post'em for you Allis guys.

One thing I didn't say in the first attempt is I cannot believe how quiet that big Gleaner is. I was less than 100 feet away and it was as if the machine was just sitting there idling. I am not a big Allis fan but it sure is a quiet machine.

It was a beautiful day yesterday to cut. Temp's were good and the fields weren't to soft from a little bit of recent rainfall. We farm in Central Pa about an hour north of Harrisburg just outside the city of Sunbury. Our farm was recently registered with the state as a Bi-Centennial farm since it has been in my family since 1806. I can't say as to how the naeighbor's buckwheat yielded as I didnt get the chance to talk to them. The tall stubble in the pics is the corn fields we had allready combined. Both the corn and the beans that we raise are Pioneer seed. We have a very good rep that lives close by and always treats us well. We have raised other brands in the past including Funk's but the Pioneer seems to work the best on our acreage. As for the M earning her keep. It just happened to be the only tractor at the shed where we keep our wagons at the time. Usually we pull the wagons with our 766 or our 7120 Magnum, but they weren't close by. We normally use the M to pull our sprayer but by next year it may get retired and fixed up. She's been a good old girl to us for many, many years. It was overhauled one time in its life back in the late 70's and had a Super M sleeve and piston kit put in it at that time and has never been apart since. I took it to a recent antique show and they asked me to dyno it and it put out about 58 horsepower on the hard draw down. So you can imagine I had a big grin on my face that day. My great uncle bought it new in 47 and my parents are the second owners of it as well as a 51 H that the same uncle bought new. They both went from his farm to our farm so they have never been out of the family. They have a lot of meaning to me and as long as I have anything to say about it they aren't going anywhere.
