firing order

How do I determine the correct firing order as I"m looking down on the cap? What I mean is, is the nipple on the right or left considered number 1? A diagram would help. A have a slight miss and want to make sure I got the wires in the right order. Its a 1950 6v side mount. Thanks!

Determine which way the rotor is turning when the engine turns by removing the distributor cap and hitting the starter.

Remove the #1 (front plug) and turn the engine till you feel pressure build with your finger in the plug hole in the head.
Top dead center of the piston on #1 compression stroke rotor is pointing to #1 nipple in cap. Firing order is 1243.

o what Zane told you and just FYI, #1 can turn out to be any one of the four.

(quoted from post at 09:29:54 06/18/13) So after I find #1, Would #2 be on the left or right side on the cap? Thanks
ould be left, right, top, bottom, etc., BUT it WILL be one more tower CCW from #1.

Thanks. Lets see if I got this straight now. After I find #1 and #2, the next nipple should go to the number four plug?
