first powersteering?

Hey gang. A friend has a he says is a 57 model 851. He says powersteering wasnt an option that year. My dad bought a 851 Im thinking in 58 and it did. What was the first year for powersteering? Not worth a thing to me. Just a question I cant get out of my head. Thanks and have a Great day

Cant answer your question for sure, but I have a 1955 861 that has power steering. I bought it from the family that had a dealership in the day.

Power steering was an option early in '57. Retro fit kits were available at the same time to add power steering to earlier models.

I think you have a typo in your date or model. 861 model didn't come out until '57.

861 did not come out till 1958 so it is a true 1955 tractor it would be a 860 which was made from 1955 to 1957 then in 1958 the 861 came out

861 was a available in the fall of '57. They made 12000 of the 01 series tractors in '57.

I believe it was 1957. My 1957 640 serial #137283
has PS and believe it was original to the tractor.

Parts site shows the start date for all of the power steering parts to be 01-Jan-57.

Power Steering was introduced as Standard Eqpt on the Row Crop (700/900) series in 1956. Power Steering was offered as Optional Eqpt on the Utility (600/800) series beginning in 1957 and it was never Standard Eqpt on them.

When John said I made a mistake I knew I made a mistake. Went out to the shed in minus 21 degrees to check it was an 860 and serial no. 43xxx/

It was Standard Eqpt on the Row Crops, Optional Eqpt on the Utlities as previously stated.
I guess your point is that your 1955 tractors have it on them so I assume it was retrofitted to them at a later date or possibly they are late 1955 models and the factory installed it. I don't know the exact serial number when it was factory installed but when it became available all Row Crops got it at the factory.

Those are not late 1955 serial numbers so maybe it was retrofitted to them at a later date.
