I put a foot switch on my drill press.

I have one on mine also . It's wired as a ' Deadman's switch ' only works if my foot's on it . Really useful and saved many a hurt finger .

make your own similar to what doubleO7 showed. you don't need all sizes like that one just the sizes you will need. you can also add a clearance hole to guide the tap drill. Drill the clearance holes with a drill press to get them perpendicular.
