Flail mower

Aeolius........according to an Oregon flail mfg (Ricksal?) the 8N-Tractor (26hp) don't have enuff horsepower to run a flail mower. Sez 10hp per foot. That is why brushhogs are more popular for ruff-cutt stuff. .......Dell

I agree with Dell. Flail mowers take a lot of power to run. I have one and I tried it on an Allis C once which has about the same HP as and 8N and it pulled it but that was all it wanted to do and would not pull it in heavy stuff. I use it behind my D-17 which is twice what an 8N is and it even makes the D-17 bark some times in the heavy stuff

I have a 6" Ford Flail Mower though I do not know the specific model number. I used it for many years on turf grass and the 8N HP was not a problem though it would not work for ditch grass or a pasture with long grass. As a turf mower it does not do as nice a job as a finish mower (which I now use) and I had some problems with the roller on the back making washboards in some areas of my lawn.
