Flipping rears around

If I wanted to make the rear of my 1948 8N Mut 6 volt front mount stance a bit wider, would it create any excess stress on the rear studs to just flip the tires around? Being that the center of the tires is not over the axle?? :?

Check out pages 123 & 124 of the operators manual. You need to remove & reverse the rims to get specific widths in 4" increments from 48" to 76", or you can just flip the wheels from one side to the other & go from 52" to 72".

We flipped them for years to other side of tractor (to keep traction forward) for cultivating 42" rows of corn. Used jacks that worked off 3 point hitch, which lifted all 4 wheels. Never had any problems.

Of course not. The owners manual tells you to do that exact thing to widen the stance. I'm sure the lug studs were designed with that possibility in mind.

I recently put my wagner loader on my 2N for some work I needed to do. When I put the fenders back on, they were rubbing on the tires. Switched then around, no more rub. They were intentionaly designed to be spread or narrowed as needed. Check out the different combinations illustrated in your FO-4 shop manuel. You do have on don't you??

I don't remember which manual this is from. Could be for an N, Hundred series or even a Thousand series tractor. The way to widen the wheels is the same on all of them however. Just the widths may be different.
