Float adjustment

What's the specs for adjusting floats so they don't overflow the carb? Seem if I move it a bit then it's not getting enough fuel or its too high and overflowing the carb

What carburetor? It helps to know that as not every carb uses the same setting.

If I guess this is on the M670 you have posted about before, it should have a Marvel Schebler TSX-901. The MS info calls for 1/4" between the gasket on the top section of the carb and the top of the floats. The top of the floats is to be parallel to the gasket surface. If it seems to be too high some have better luck setting the floats of these at 5/16".

The info should be in your manual and is found in the Marvel Schebler carb manuals available free online.

Edit to add that the round shank of the proper sized drill bit makes a good gauge to check and set floats with.

Okay, how do I check height when it's together or when it's split apart?

It has to be split apart to check and adjust the float.

The link below will take you to a Marvel Schebler Manual for their DLTX and the TSX model carburetors, you can download and save for future reference. The TSX section of it has info on setting the floats and other adjustments.

Once you set the floats, with the carb body turned so the floats are up and holding the needle closed try blowing into the inlet fitting if the needle is seating you will not be able to blow into the carb. If you can blow into it that indicated the needle is not seating.

Another check with it running is to put a small nipple in the carb bowl drain port. with the gas shut off attach a length of clear tubing, long enough to loop up above the top of the carb on it. Secure to open upper end of the tubing above the carb. Turn the gas on and the tubing will show you the actual level of the gas in the carb bowl.

Have you put a kit into this carb including a new needle and seat, or have you just been tweaking things? If just tweaking it may be time for a kit. A kit should have setting and adjustment info in it.

Sounds good thanks! I'll do some adjustments tomorrow on it

Most times is not float. New carb kits are not worth installing. Better off making your own gasket and reusing needle and seat, Way better quality than Chinese kits. Needle doesn't fit in seat properly. Float have a pin hole?

No hole in the float, the needle seals up doesn't like just floats are out of adjustment

I was told by MMDEL to use a piece of metal rod the size of the distance you need to set it at. That is what I always use now. Make it long enough to fit across the milled surface and just roll it in place to check.
