Anybody have any tips or tricks,made the irons,have a air hammer. Anything else to make it go quick and smooth

Be sure to put your patience in your pocket when you head over to the shop You'll need it.

Oh, and be sure to leave the swear words at the house or else they will slip out on you.

The only things you might need would be a small roll pin punch and a larger drift punch. I also use a large C clamp for pushing pins in.

Good luck with your rubber torsion springs. I have given up on finding a good one. I have had a sample from everyone including those who say "made in USA". They have all broken.

Also be aware that the torsion springs are left and right specific. Put them in their respective locations.

Have you tried torsion springs from Nick B. in New York? I was thinking seriously of trying his product on my next seat rebuild and his Green Magazine ad says the springs carry a 2 year guarantee. Would appreciate your feedback.

Take pictures..Many pictures from every angle..Before and during dis-assembly..

NOTE the EXACT position of each pin on each rubber spring, before you remove them.. The New springs will not look right, so check very closely..the old ones will stay in a very twisted shape..
Grease all pivots as you drive the pins in..
Better clean and paint the parts before you assemble..

Last I heard was that he was no longer selling springs because he too was unhappy with the quality. You could give him a call to see if he has any at the moment.

Float Ride Seat Torsion Spring Tools

Make tool to install adjuster as follows;
1) Two 18" pieces of 1" flat bar ¼” thick.
2) Drill ¼” hole near end of each one and another one 1 ¼” from holes just drilled at end. (Center to center of holes)
3) If you want to make it fancy thread the holes. Will work better.
4) Install ¼” X 1" bolts, I believe the bolts are inserted from opposite direction on each piece.
5) With all seat bushings installed and torsion springs installed (These must be installed in their correct positions, there is a right and a left one) turn the seat upside down and use the tool you just made to rotate the torsion springs apart by inserting the ¼” bolts in the ends of the tool into the adjuster holes on the torsion springs and using the other ¼” bolt to leverage against the torsion spring metal. Spread tools outward forcing the adjuster rod holes apart. You need a third hand to insert the proper size piece of hard wood between the two torsion spring tangs so the tool can be removed and the adjuster rod installed in the tang holes. Soft wood will be crushed so you need hard wood. Be careful as there is a lot of tension on the springs when doing this.

Also you can tell the left and right torsion springs apart if you lay them out with the tangs pointed down and with pins up, the one with the pin at the 7 o'clock position will be the right one (R2047) and the one with the pin at 8 o'clock position will be the left one (R2046)
