Foot got pulled into rear wheel

Hey folks, today my right foot got pulled between the loader frame and tire. It was a close call, nothing broken but it could have been bad. The 730 loader frame narrows the space between tire and footrest and creates a trapping hazard. I think I can reposition the wheels so there is more space.

Thank you. These are teaching moments for those who are listening. Glad you weren't hurt.

I was once pulling a drag with a chain with brain intentionally switched off. The chain caught on a tire lug and pulled it into the tractor. Two seconds before it broke my neck, I noticed the drag coming over on me. Depressed the clutch and brakes at the same time and killed the engine. When I broke the chain (which was under extreme tension), the drag came over and bent the steering wheel and fender, hence the near broken neck assumption. When I told two friends of my mishap, one said it'd happened to him three times dragging mining tailing piles and the other once when he tried to pull an implement through the back of the ROPS. Neither told me of their misadventures. If they had, I wouldn't have repeated the mistake.

That was my other idea, install some kind of foot guard to keep my foot out. I bought my 730 loader used, no guard was present.

That is one thing the Brit and Belgium
tractors had going for them.
They used an extra wide step plate and
different - longer fenders that bolted to
the step plates.
Made it much harder to get your foot in
there.
I bought a very nice set of Brit fenders
some years ago and then located a set of
the wide step plates to go with them. At
the time I just wanted to stop the bottom
of the fenders from flapping in the breeze.
But I have grown to like them - for the
reason you just encountered, especially
when the step plates are covered in snow
and ice and I have tire chains on.

I liked that fender step combination also. Dad had one 5000 so equipped. Left side was a perfect spot for a 2.5 gal. Gott water cooler, orange with white top... my constant companion 45 years ago.
