My next restoration project arrived yesterday. Its a fully original H in excellent condition. The only things that I see that need attention is the shutters are stuck and the bolts all over are stuck on the square nuts. I can handle the bolts and shutters however the question is this, my service books and parts listing does not show me if the hood will simply lift up and off or if its supported underneath. It feels really solid compared to my B. It also appears that I will be drilling out alot of those philips bolt/screw things and retapping threads.

The hood is not attached to anything other than the bolts, but of course you need to get it over the muffler.

I don't remember the H having shutters, only the canvas cover?

Dave - it is pretty much the same drill as for an A or B tractor. Drain any remaining fuel from tanks, remove medallion & grilles plus steering wheel and worm shaft, disconnect the obvious service lines, pipes & wires plus the forward shutter control, un-bolt rear tank bracket at the cylinder block, and lift over the muffler to remove hood & tank asssembly. The "H" hood probably seems more firmly in place than an A or B tractor because it extends further to the front - like all the way!

" A fully original H in excellent condition " if it still sports the original paint as "fully original" indicates,to me this would be very rare indeed and may warrant not repainting ?

Get a hand held impact driver with some phillips bits and have a WHACK at those bolts with it first after a good soaking with PB blaster. Try to get it on the back sides too. It just may loosen them ? If not the phillips head is at least good to start a drill on center with.

Its my fathers and also his idea. He saw the end result of my B and wouldn't resist. The H has the original dealer sticker type decal on each side of the hood. I had photos in the tractor photo section.

I’m with Mike, if it is original then I’d keep it that way, anyone can have a shinny painted up tractor but a true original is rare, especially if it is in good shape.

I saw your pictures and I can't believe you would even consider repainting that tractor !

I'm from Ohio and have had alot of H's and they were mostly pretty beat up. I have never seen a tractor as nice as yours. That has to be rare in that condition. The H's always also seemed to be in alot rougher shape then similar aged models. They lead rough lives.
