ford 1520

The neighbor has a ford 1520 utility
tractor. The other day he went to start it
and it clicked. He left it for a few days
until it warmed up. Today he went to start
it and nothing works. We tested the
battery and it has 12.5 volts. We tested
for power at the switch and it had 12.4
volts. I have not been around ford
tractors what should we be looking at
next?

Neutral safety switch? Make sure it is in neutral and jump from the big terminal to the small terminal on the starter solenoid. The engine should turn over. That bypasses the key switch, neutral switch, wiring, etc. If that doesn't make it spin, it could be a starter/solenoid problem. The starter could even be locked with the flywheel teeth. Rock it back and forth in a higher gear or loosen the starter if you determine it is locked.

Just a few ideas. I have an old 1500 2 cylinder.

Look for a fuse or a fused link by the starter.There's also a safety on the pto.

Reading voltage doesn't mean the connections will pass current sufficient to turn the starter. Clean all 4 battery cable connections, check the fusible link at the starter solenoid (short red wire).
