Ford 1700 Died Help Please

Hello,

Tractor was running fine, ford 1700, all the sudden it seemed to run out of gas. On a slight incline, nothing too much though. There was still a little in the tank, but I filled it with a couple of gallons anyway. Now, it won't start, doesn't puff out the black smoke when I crank the starter. And, oddly the fuel filter only seems to be a quarter full. I took it off and fuel seems to run through in a thin stream.

Any ideas? Would it be the fuel pump? Or maybe it isn't getting the pressure from the tank that it should? Is the pump hard to switch out?

Would greatly appreciate any help you may have.

I thankyou.

Once you run a diesel dry, you need to bleed the lines, and preferably, change the filter if you havn't in a while.

if you have a site glass that is only half full.. you have ALOT of air in the lines. check your manual for the bleed procedure on your unit.. most start with a full tank of fuel and new fitler and have bleeder screws to open till fuel dribbles out, then you do that all the way tot he injection pump. from there, you crackt he injector lines and crank over till fuel dribbles out, then move tot he next one. once you get her bled.. sometimes they still ahve a hard time starting.. and it's hard onthe starter.. got to let it rest inbetween tries... on real tough suckers.. a pull start usualyl spins it fast enough to take off.

do make sure you are getting good fuel flow from your tank tap.
