ford 2000 diesel

I just traded for a ford 2000 diesel tractor, has the 3 cylinder diesel. It didn"t run when I got it, had to replace fuel tank valve, couple new fuel lines including filter, fresh oil. After bleeding injectors and spraying wd40 in intake, it started for the first time in years. It runs excellent, I let it run for hour and half, shut it off, tried to restart it, but no luck unless I sprayed wd40. What would be the cause of it needing an additive to start? Has a good battery, spins quickly over. Per previous owner, he said in the past it never needed anything to help it start. It doesnt have glow plugs and there"s no fuel leaks. Thanks for any and all help.

Check the compression. the rings could be stuck or the valves could be stuck or the push rods bent, etc. Are you getting any white smoke when you"re cranking indicating it"s getting fuel?Doses bleeding the fuel system help?
Do you have good fuel flow to the filters and the pump?

I have good flow of fuel from tank, through filter and to injector pump. Once I bleed the injectors, I started getting white smoke out of exhaust, indicating a good sign. Once injectors was bled, I used wd40 to start it, it wouldn't start on its own. Don't have the equipment to check compression at the moment. Once its started, runs like a top. No knocking, or odd noises except for fan hits radiator shield alittle bit.

if it spins over easilly.. and cranks on fuel sprayed into intake. see if it also pull starts easy. if so.. all poitns to needing a comp check.

Afte rthe pull start.. I'd dump a quart of atf type f / dex 3 intot he fuel tank and crank case.. then go mow or work the snot out of it for a couple hours and see what happens.

ps.. any slobbering?

I would expect an ignition pump clearance issue if it starts cold and not hot. I would not think it is a compression issue if it starts cold.

I put the atf in diesel and crank case, cranked it using wd40 and it ran for 2 hours at med throttle. Shut it down, didn't restart, just turn over. I would spray wd40 as it turned over, you can smell it and see the white smoke indicating its getting fuel. Tried jumping off with truck, no luck. Wish now I would have traded for a gas ford 600, at least I knew how to work on it.

After it ran last night for 2 hours, it hasent ran since. Will turn over, see smoke coming from exhaust, bled injectors, good flow, sprayed wd40, still no luck. It acts like it wants to start on wd4/, but just don"t kick on over. It"s strange, ran so good and now won"t run at all.

We had a John Deere 1830 that gradually got hard to start cold without help.We got a mechanic from the local dealer out and he said the distrutor pump was shot. We sold the tractor and the new owner said the head of the injector pump was worn badly allowing fuel pressure to leak off at low speed like when it was cranking.When the engine was running it ran smoothly and made good power.I would suspect the pump is bad.
