Ford 2000 hp

I just bought this little ford 2000 . Its a 1963 with selectospeed. My grandpa had a 601 he bought new and I figured this tractor would be the same power but I was surprised. I have a 7' john deere flail mower that we used to run with a case 530 and it would bring it to its knees. Im sure grandpas 601 would never run this mower in high grass. Could somebody have put the larger pistons in this tractor like a 4000 or is the block different. I know the selectospeed helps because grandpas 601 was often too fast in low gear. This selectospeed will slow way down and Im sure that helps. This ford seems to run the mower just as well as the case and I think it was 43 hp.

Jim, Your 2000 should be around 39 H.P. unless someone modified something in the engine, gearing does play a role in performance so that could be what you're noticing the difference from.

According to tractordata.com, the 601 and the 4 cylinder 2000 both produced around 31 PTO HP.

There are many different horsepower ratings for a tractor. There's engine hp, drawbar hp, belt hp and PTO hp. The 4 cylinder 2000 had 48 engine hp as advertised, and 31 PTO hp as tested, and 28 drawbar hp as tested.

The Case 530 had 41.27 PTO hp as tested, at least according to tractordata, but they usually use the numbers from the Nebraska Tests.

Sometimes we run this mower on my sons john deere 3010 diesel and it even makes it blow some black smoke. I was just really surprised the little ford will run it. I actually went and boguht a 6' finish mower for this ford because I didnt think it would run the 7' flail mower. Maybe I can sell the finish mower as soon as I get the new spindle bearing in it.
