Ford 2000- no fire

I'm working on a '63 Ford 2000 (4 cyl. gas)and have replaced the coil, points, rotor, condenser and connecting link between points and distributor terminal. Also have new spark plug and coil wires and new spark plugs. Points are set at .025, I have 6 volts at battery side of coil (- connection) when switch is turned on. Although I have 6 volts at battery side of coil, I have nothing at the distributor side (+ connection on coil)when everything is connected. In trying to isolate the cause, if I disconnect the wire from the coil to distributor at the distributor and test, I have 6 volts at the distributor end of the wire. Do I have a short or ground somewhere in the distributor, a bad condenser or something else? I'm stumped.

If you would make sure you have voltage on one side of the coil (6 volt), then remove the wire going to the distributer and replace it with a temporary wire long enough to place it on ground at the block. With the coil wire held close to ground you will have a spark when you disconnect the temporary wire from being grounded. The points closed make the circuit complete to ground. The plate that the points are mounted onto must have a short wire going to ground.Robert

Check to see if the feed thru insulator at the distribuitor is bad and shorting to ground.. ..

somewhere there is a short.. aft of the coil.. when the points are open, you should read bat volts on both sides of the coil..

If you have current on one side of the coil but no current on the other side of the coil when the points are NOT in contact with each other, there is a short. The insulator at the input side of the distributor could be bad or the wire that takes the current from there to the points could be grounded. Eliminate one thing at a time (condenser, points) from the circuit to help pinpoint the culprit.

Looks like the problem is the bushing and/or insulator at the primary terminal on the insulator. I'm going to replace them and see if that works. Thanks for everyone's help.
