Ford 2000 Skipping popping

I have a 1969 Ford 2000 w/3 cyl engine. It only cranks with the accelerator on idle, and it skips and pops when accelerated and under load.
Runs good for a while and then it skips and pops.
Will a weak battery cause this?

I had a spark plug wire pop off of mine last weekend. I had put a new set of plugs in and 1 was not tight. after running it hard I heard a pop followed by intermittent poor preformance.

Tightened the plug and put the wire back on, good to go

Fred:

The symptoms that you describe are not caused by a weak battery.

Most likely the starting problem is caused by a mis adjusted choke cable that does not fully close the choke valve.

The missing upon acceleration can be caused by either ignition or carburetion problems.
