Will a ford 2000 3 cyl, 4spd,hi/low (8 spd) go slow enough to use tiller? Or would i be better off using a plow and disk set up? I would be using this to work up a couple of acres for food plots, i mainly use the ford now for trail maintanace, Looking to expand it's useage and get more seat time :D any thoughts?

If it's got live PTO then that's even better, if you hit a patch of harder soil you can just push the clutch halfway in and let the tiller churn on that spot until it does its thing.

Thanks guys, it does have live pto and I use a brushog on it now (4') and that works great. Am i correct in thinking of five hp per foot of tiller? This web site was a great find, a wealth of information already by just reading past posts.

Does the mn in your name have to do with MN?
I'm in the twin cities and do my plots near Aitkin, MN.
As the others have said your 8 sp will do fine on a tiller.
However if you have the same rocky soil as we do you will wreck a tiller pretty quickly.
For rocks and stones you are far better off with a plow and disc.
Plow and disc will be much faster too.
I have a 3000 that I love. Same tractor as your 2000 really.
I pull a 2-16" plow and an 8' disc.
Here are a couple of photos.
We have fun with it and it and definitely draws the deer in.

What's your minimum ground speed?
I'd like to get down to .8 or half that for running my tiller. My 12 forward speed Ford is not even close to that but it's not a 3 cylinder-8speed or an SOS. Are you talking about some other type of tiller than a PTO? I'd look at the manufacture's site for ground speed recommendations and then your soil type.

I'd use a plow and disc for me it's the best time I have all year on the tractor. I use a JD with the PTO tiller that gets down to crawl for PTO tiller work < than .8 by a lot.

Manual says his 8 speed travels about 1.6 mph at pto speed = 1900 rpm.
A 2/3000 with Select O Speed will get you down to about 1 mph.
I agree about plowing and discing being enjoyable. I look forward to that time of year.

Yes sir,i am from mn, cloquet area, my hunting property is loaded with rocks!! So i would probably be beter off with the plow and disk? Thinking that tiller may not work the best with the rocks. I do have access to a eight foot disc but it's not setup for the 3pt (nothing a welder won't fix). I believe it was set up for a older jd m model. So the search is on for a plow. nothing is more relaxing than working up at the deer camp making trails or mowing fields i have forty acres five of it is field rest woods and and some lowland with a small beaver pond

if this works heres a couple pics of my little ford 2000

I have the exact same tractor. I plow in the central pennsylvania mountains, lots od rocks. I use a spring tooth chisle plow and it works great. Great for cleaning up fields and plowing. The 2000 will pull 7 teeth. I will try to send picture.

This field had not been plowed for 60 years. Lots of rocks. Pick up a used spring tooth chisel and a cultipacker and you will be all set.

ud i haven't had it all that long so I don't really know it's history.
I do know she runs like a champ for a '68 model. makoman that sure is a nice looking job you did there. I have a skid steer attachment that i may be converting to a chisel type 3pt plow
(a 60" scarifacer) the skid steer has to pull it backwards so the 3pt would pull the right direction. i'll post pic of it soon, i really hate pulling it backwards with the skid steer. Only problem is there wouldn't be any give in the chisels as they're solid mounted

If its deer plots this tool would cover all I would think...
All purposes are field cultivator

Either way I always use it on new ground it will surprise you what hidden and it will pull it up...

New ground would also be a good candidate for a disc plow. Once you get a handle using a bottom plow its about as much fun as you can have :) You have the machine your options are plentiful...

I used a 4 ft tiller behind my ford 2000 (3 cylinder) yesterday. Its new ground so I sub soiled it and ran a disc over it first to cut up the sod. I'm happy with the results. Plenty of power, I think I could use a 5 ft tiller.
