Ford 2000 Tractor

I have a Ford 2000 that I recently purchased. It has been sitting up for a little while and does not I have a battery in it. I am thinking it is a 6 volt but may need a 12 volt. The serial number is a C255272. Not sure of the year. Would like to learn more about it.

If I remember right it was new to be 12 volt negative ground

Hello DW, welcome to YT. Per the link Tractordata shows it could be either 6 volt positive ground or 12 volt negative ground. Ford 2000 on tractordata Pull out a headlight and see what voltage it says. I sure there are Ford guys on here that can tell you which it was originally by the SN. Also it’s a 1963. Both the SN number info and battery info are down low on that linked page.

I don't know but the 1300, 1500, 1700, and 1900 are 12 volt with the Shibaura diesels.

Is it a three cyl or four cyl? Gas or diesel?

69 3 cyl 12 volt 17TF was oem battery for gas 4DLT for diesel

Thanks for the info. I did see that it was a 3 cyl. I will try the 12 volt. I also noticed that it appears to have a generator on it as well.

Generators are positive ground, alternators are negative ground

For the 2000 tractors the generators might have been positive ground originally and alternators were negative ground.

A bit of clarification as someone in the future will see this and interpret it as all generators mean the system is positive ground (and all alternators are negative ground). Generators can be 6, 12, 24, etc. volts and can be polarized to either positive or negative ground, so just because one has a generator it is not a sure sign the system is positive ground.

Alternators can be various voltages (6, 12, 24, etc.) and can be either negative or positive ground.

According to the serial number your 2000 is a 69 model, all Ford tractors from 65-75 except the 7000 model were 12 volt negative ground with generators
The 7000 and all Ford models built after 76 were 12 volt negative ground with alternators
