Ford 2000 two stage clutch problems!

I have a 1970 ford 2000 gas. I've never
been able to get the 2 stage clutch to
work. So I tore it down far enough to get
the steering tower off to adjust the clutch
internally. This is what I found 2 of 3
adjusters are broke !!

Is this repairable in the tractor or is it
time for a clutch??

What could cause this to happen? The two
stage clutch was not working when I bought
the tractor.

Looking for direction on my tractor any
help is appreciated. I just want me
twonatage clutch to work right. Thanks

SWAG...
When a leg broke, someone probably adjusted it tighter to get the remaining legs to pick up the slack,, thus causing them to break also.

or someone incorrectly adjusted it trying to get the two stage to work?

Or incorrectly rebuilt pressure plate?

Or too thick of a disc used?

Or pressure plate built on a Monday morning after Superbowl weekend.

I have never been into one of these tractors that suddenly developed clutch problems that one or more wasn't broken and I've been into my share. Ever heard of the weakest link. That's it. I don't know if that part is still available or not. We always replace the whole unit.

Thanks all for the replies! Looks like a new clutch is what I need! I've never split a tractor before !! Also were is a good place to get a clutch kit ? Thanks

I've seen and repaired that multiple times. The breakage is simply caused by wear from lots of use.

Pressure plate is rebuildable, but ideally you'd do it in the proper jig to get all the levers adjusted just right. A reman plate is likely your best, but not cheapest, option.

Having read about so many "almost right parts" I am leaning toward having my parts rebuilt if possible even if it may cost more $ than over the counter parts. In this case, definitely have rebuilt. Look where you will be when you discover your part "almost fits".

The work you've done is similar to looking at all the fine pastries at a bakery through the window. You can see them but you can't eat them. That's why most of us recommend just going ahead and splitting it in the first place. Splitting the tractor isn't a bad job. Read your manual first and have at it.
I have purchased I think 5 of those double clutches from this web site now.
All were good products. No surprises. And by buying here you support this outstanding free forum.
A couple of additional thoughts:
There were different spline counts on the input shafts over the years. So split the tractor First, count your splines and then order the parts.
Also, as you may or may not know, Ford built two different 2000s - the earlier 4 cylinder model and the three cylinder model that you have. They are 100% Different machines. A lot of parts sellers get confused by that.
Except for some diesel engine parts and rear axle seals a 3 cyl 2000 is almost identical to a 3000. The clutches ARE identical. So generally, buy your parts for a 3000 not a 2000. You will have fewer parts errors and disappointments that way.

When splitting do it the SAFE way! block the front and roll the rear using the Hobo NC rigid rolling jack.

I have purchased several dual stage kits from right here on this site. I have been well pleased the quality of the parts. I always change both the pilot and release bearing when i do a clutch job. I can see that you have a dry release bearing in your pic.

Or it is simply a very common failure.
And one good example of why not to pull the steering box to diagnose clutch problems.
