I have a 72 Ford 2000 that will start on the 1st try, but after its ran for a few minutes then it won't start again if you shut if off. Its getting spark and seems to be getting fuel. Does any body have any idea what is wrong with it?

seems to be getting fuel.

that's an intresting statement.. :)

was this real physical observation.. or some telepathic check... as it's either getting fuel or not, assuming it has spark when you try to start her, but she won't.

a can of start fluid can help you prove a few things here.

post back.

Mark,

I have a 1973 Ford 2000. After it's been run for a while and I have shut it off, it is hard to restart. I've found that I need to open the throttle all the way when I try to start it when it is hot. It always starts back up - runs a little rough for a few seconds, but it works.

My situation might not be the same as yours, but I would suggest that you give it a try.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

all of these are up draft carbs and will need a quick pull of the choke while cranking..so set it just a bit above an idle, crank and while cranking, give the choke a quick yank 3/4 out and back in and it will fire if everything is right.

If its cold, then a longer pull is needed and pull to max and ease back in a bit when if fires and set it till it runs smooth and let it warm up while slowly working it in.

however if the float is sticking, you will need to crank it wide open with no choke, as its flooding.

When I say seems to be getting fuel, I loosen the glass bowl, and crank, and fuel shoots out. so the fuel pump is working.
