Ford 3000 - your impressions

I had the same model tractor a few years back,if it
would of had live PTO I would still have it,I don't
think the loader from your 641 will fit without some
modifications,but I could be wrong.They are a good
tractor, and the overhaul is a plus.

Though the photos are not definitive, it looks to have a four speed transmission. If so it cannot have live PTO.

A friend of mine had a similar early 3000 with four speed. I found it virtually unuseable for some tasks due to gearing. It was simply far too fast.

I agree that the pictures make it hard to tell on the trans. One of the pictures looks like I think I can see a second stick, but the other one doesn't. I think that what I'm seeing might just be one of the bars of the tire tread.

If it has the 6 or 8 speed and live PTO, then it would definitely be worth it. With just the 4 speed I would be offering him money for just the pie weights to see if he would sell them separately.

looks like 2 sticks.
confusing write-up
engine overhauled? or power steering overhauled?
Pie weights, and if engine really overhauled, good deal.
I'd still offer 2500, but that's just me....

as an example, that very similar 3000 on ebay that was posted about recently with the $2500 buy it now.
after the first bid, the buy it now goes away and it sold for $3550.

(quoted from post at 07:39:03 05/01/14) Going to see this on Saturday. He actually had this listed a couple of days ago at $2550 and then quickly relisted it for $2900. I currently have a 640 with a Fasco loader without PS.

Will that loader work on this 3000? (I suspect not.)

What do you think of the tractor from this little information?

Its a 65 to aug of 68 model.. check for worn out front axle pivot pin in the front casting as the loader would wear those out. If its an 8 speed... if its an 8 speed, I would consider it. If not, pass it by.

Weights could indicate possible loader tractor or worked hard so check it for worn out everthing. Again, if 8 speed,, and its not plumb worn out... I would pull the switch on it. If other transmission, you can give them away down here.

Your loader should fit. Fasco built the loader sold as the Ford model 1200. From my '68 sales literature... "Specially built for Ford 2000 and 3000 tractors. Also fits many prior Ford models..." My cousin bought an 850 with a Fasco loader last fall. Fit nicely, but he didn't want the loader, so it's gone now.
Like the others say, if it's an 8-speed go for it. I also would pass if it's a 4-speed. (6-speeds replaced the 4-speed, and weren't available on the 'early' 2/3000's with the louvered hoods)

I have the same tractor I bought 2 years ago with loader for $3000. Mine has a 2 stage clutch instead of a live pto.

I think at that price it would be more than well paid for if it works good. Remember, it's gas... and it needs rubber... that fact alone will cost you 1500 or more... and it's gas.
No doubt your loader could be made to fit although personally I don't see it being worth your time and effort.

I appreciate everyone's input. I'm not a cash crop farmer. I have some property where I put in food plots and clean up areas and such that my dad and I use for deer hunting and it happens to be in the same area as this tractor. At the worst I figure I can drive this tractor from his place to mine and not even need a trailer. I'm looking for a second tractor for the same reason I have more than one Harley - I want to make sure at least is one is always available

I can see that the tires are pretty worn but the ones on my 640 are probably worse and I'll run those till the fluid runs out.

As for swapping the loader, I just figured this one would handle it better and that would make the 640 more nimble for gettign in and out of the woods.

I know it's gas. If I were a cash crop farmer that might make a difference to me. I know how to work on gassers. I've never worked on a diesel.

I'll be sure to look for some of the items you guys have all brought up. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks!

2 stage clutch is a live PTO.

Just got a reply from the owner. He is the second owner and believes it is a 1970 model.

Looking at TractorData.com I see the Model and Serial numbers are on the right side. I'll be sure to get those.

I'm thinking it is a twin stick though I agree it is hard to tell for sure.
I would still take a 3000 with a 4 speed over a 600 with a 4 speed.

I have a Fasco 1200 loader off a 3000. It has 2 sets of holes at the rear were you mount it to the rear axle... On a 3000 you use the rear set the other set is 9" closer (best I can tell) to the front... I don't know the difference in wheel base maybe someone does... btw THE LOADER IS FOR SALE CHEAP

Well, it's an 8 speed. The engine was overhauled less than two years ago. It doesn't have a live PTO but it does have a ORC on it. Starts and runs like a champ. Had to scrape away some stuff to find the Serial # C194772 which makes it a 1968 and the Model 31022C. Production Code says it was made on Feb 12th 1968 on the day shift :)

I need a manual for the one. Which one should I get?

I also need to change all the fluids. Still had the canister filter and am thinking of the spin on replacement like I did for my 640.

That one rear tire does need to be changed fairly soon but other than a minor leak or two that are easily fixable with a new gasket here or o-ring there I think I did ok as I got it and got it delivered for $2500.

Think I'll move the loader from the 640 to the 3000 but I'll have to study on that a bit as I don't know if all the hydraulics swap over.

looks like a very good deal to me.
Just got back from an auction where a clone of that tractor was sold.
early model, gas, dual stick, ran good, no weights, 40% tires, PS didn't work too well.
I dropped out at $2k, it went for 2900 plus tax and 10%.
........and yours looks better
