I got an old Ford 3000. Strong diesel motor, cranks every time, lift still has good power. When I have the brushhogg on it and Im mowing before you know it the hydraulics wont stAy put. It either starts creeping up higher than I want or it will go down and bury itself kicking the pto out of gear. So Im constantly having try to look back while going attempting to find a sweet spot. I have a good Hyd oil level, clean 1 hyd pump screen, and recently changed hyd oil. While Im very thankful for her she can be difficult to use. Thank yall

Is the draft control lever up or down when you are mowing?

shredder Pto shaft is a bit long?
shredder Pto shafts overlap area needs slip area greased.
tractor rear pto bearing missing c clip
tractor pto shaft twisted

rear seat mounting stud incorrectly replaced with bolt
draft spring loose or out of adjustment
friction disc on lever bad or out of adjustment
3pt internal linkage worn or broken
lift cyl worn and leaking bad

Does the control handle move when this happens? If so, you may just need to tighten the nut on the friction disk at the base of the handle. Also, as 338ftw said, make sure that the small lever is in position control mode when running a mower as that is the only way to guarantee that it will stay in the same position with everything else working correctly.

It either starts creeping up higher than I want or it will go down and bury itself kicking the pto out of gear.

The 3 point hydraulics lowering down shouldn't cause the PTO to disengage. Or are you saying that the mower blades are hitting the ground and the shock is causing the PTO handle to disengage? In either case, that isn't normal if you have a shear pin or slip clutch on the shaft as the slip clutch should slip or the shear pin should shear. I suspect that the circlip on the front side of the rear PTO plate has popped out of position, possibly due to the external PTO drive shaft being too long as sotxbill said.
