My Ford 3000 has a port on the intake tube just before the carb, I've seen this on other thousand series tractors. Can someone tell me what it is for, how it is used ? starting fluid ?

Could be for the air filter sensor. Senses vacuum between the filter and carb to let you know to change or clean the filter. Maybe only used on the
dry air filters. My 2000 has one.

(quoted from post at 07:36:51 10/18/23) When they went to paper air filters, they added air restriction indicators. I would guess that is what you are seeing.

Well you all are correct about it having a paper filter, Per the serial number I think it is a '73 model. I assume the ones with the restriction advisor, would have the 4 warning lights this one only has oil and the gen lights. no loose wires near the port either.

Would the restriction indicator have had a switch on this port ?

any idea what years had the restriction indicators ?

both gas and diesel ?

I have five of these thousand series, and still need to be educated on them !

Nothing electrical involved. On mine it's black plastic and cylindrical with a small white button that will pop out as the signal. Instructions are
printed on it. Push the button in to reset it.
