ford 3000?

hi guys i have what i think is a 3000 diesel. hydraulic lift is very slow at first if it even picks up. when the tractor sets say overnight the lift will not pick up. i run the tractor for ten or so minutes and then its like something catches and it works like it should. after that point i have no problems with it until it sets up. i have check the fluid and it is pumping. can you guys tell me what to do or check now?

sounds like vacume leak in intake side of pump.. like plumbing tube or shaft seal.

My money is the un-loader o-ring is sticking/worn out...
It could be other issues my 3000 had aux hydraulics and the aux worked perfect all the time every time so it was a no brainier for me to dive into the lift cover...

If it were a leak on the suction side are a pump issue to me it would be EZ to see and check...

There is a 3x5 plate on top of the center housing between your legs when you're sitting on the tractor. On that plate there will be 1 bolt head that is larger than the rest. Remove that bolt and install a 3000 psi liquid filled hydraulic pressure gauge and then start the tractor. Correct pressure should be at least 1700 psi, and best would be up around 2200 psi.

That port is right after the pump in the hydraulic circuit, and before the 3 point lift control valve.

If the pressure is ok at that test port when you first start the tractor, and the lift is still having problems until it warms up, then the problem is somewhere in the lift mechanism. Either in the control valve, relief valve, unloader valve or lift cylinder.

If the pressure is not ok at that test port until it warms up, then the problem is in the pump side of the circuit, either with the pump itself or a leak at the suction tube as sounNdguy said.

he'll have to chain his lift arms and rais the control to see pressure there. but yeah.. it will tell a bit.

if there is no oil there.. there is loss of prime.

if there is oil there but no pressure.. then stuck unlaoder is likely.

I would also think you could plum in a clear hose from the bleeder on the pump to the hyd. fill plug and check for air.. Whatcha think... Maybe its not so EZ but if one does not have aux hyd like I did any EZ check would be better than a chasing a guess...

If the arms aren't lifting, would he still have to chain them down?

This is exactly how mine acts. When I bleed the system at the pump, the lift works without needing to run 10 minutes. Sometimes I even get a 'pop' of air when I open the bleed bolt.

If yours is the same way, you are probably losing prime in the hydraulic system. The hard part is finding out where. I have no leaks and all the seals and o-rings in the pump are new. It being a chore tractor with occasional use, I am just living with it until I have the time to tear into it.
