Hey fellas,

Chasing some info on this ford loader tractor I'm about to get. It as a torque converter gearbox and ford loader. Has no pto and a 3 cylinder diesel. Believe it's had an engine swap? Are the torque converter transmissions any good?

Any info would help thanks!!

The tractor is not a 340 and it does not have a torque converter transmission according to the info you posted
I can’t see the first digit very well but I’m thinking it’s a D, because it looks like my tractor

D5011K is the model code which decodes as a 4500 industrial with diesel engine, not pto and 6x4 manual reversing transmission
That transmission has 6 forward gears and 4 reverse gears with a clutch, not torque converter

0M11 is a production date of 1970, December 11
My birthday

B149596 is a serial number for a tractor built in Basildon, England during 1970 for export use

4500 model used the 750 model loader and that one looks the same as my 750 loader

This may help you you have two shifter on the top of the Transmission Left on is the Gear speed and the Right one is High /Low and the lever by the steering wheel controls the Revering Transmission. This scan is out of the 3400/3500/4400/4500 Industrial Operators Manual. If you want the Manual let me know

The tractor only has one gear lever and has no clutch suggesting its the power reverse but the stamp says it has the normal reversing box

Here are scans of the SOS shifter. But you should still have a pedal. You will have to take some pictures if it looks different then these scans

Apparently it’s been stamped wrong, two levers with a clutch is a 6x4 manual reverser like I have
One shifter with lever in the dash and no clutch is a 4x4 torque converter auto reversing trans that should have a F letter in the model code instead of the K it has
I know nothing about these transmissions but they seam to hold up well

It appears I got the 740 loader and 750 hoe numbers mixed up, my bad

An update on the ford 4500. The rings are stupidly worn out along with the cylinders. The engine is fully stripped and at my local machine shop for a complete rebuild. The conrods small end bushes are loose in the conrod and will likely need replaced with the crank also needing a regrind. My remaining questions are the following

1- what is the engine code? I've seen BSD333 listed on many websites while looking for parts what is the code for my specific engine?

2- why would the bell housing be stamped with a different letter for the gearbox than what it actually is? (It is power shift but is stamped for 6x4?)

3- is the torque converter likely to be buggered?

Thanks for anymore help fellas!

BSD333 is the model code for a 201 replacement engine
Your engine has a D at the beginning of the block serial number denoting it is for a 4000 series tractor, the only diesel engine used on the 4000 series was the 201 engine
When searching for parts or information pertaining to your engine you’ll get more results if you search 69-75 Ford 4000 201 diesel, your 4500 is an industrial version of the more common 4000 ag model
