I just bought my first tractor and would like some info on serial numbers and date code. I was told it was a 1976 Ford 3600. I found two sets of numbers stamped on the top of the bell housing behind the starter. The first one is 7F23B. I"m assuming that"s the date code. The second is C545544. If anyone can tell me excactly what I have it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

The "C545544" sounds like the s/n, which I think would make it a 1977 or so. My 3600 Model # is CA213C, last 3 give the fuel type, PTO type & trans. Just bought mine last week. Good luck with yours.

yeah, I'd say june 23, day shift, 1977

model id will give you machine characteristics as it left the factory.

Thanks for your help. With only 2 sets of #'s stamped on the bellhousing, and figuring one is the date code and the other is the s/n Considering there's nothing under the hood, where can I go to find the model#? I would like to order an operators manual and want to make sure I get the correct one. I'm just curious because it was yellow at one time and then painted blue. Could it be an industrial 3400 or 3500? Here's some of the paticulars.
3 cyl gas
6/2 hi/lo tranny
live PTO
Ford factory loader

could be.. its def a 77 model.. should be a 3rd number near the serial and date code.. if not.. then describe the front end.. the frontaxle will tell us more.

is it an adjustable width..with a support running back to the transmission sides??(3600)

or just a bent ibeam... with a support running back to the transmission sides.. (3400)
or
a closed boxed-in tube with king pins on either side that hold the hubs on.. (3500)

is it a 6 speed or 8 speed??

does the clutch rod have two holes where it connects to the arm that comes out of theside of the transmission on the left side in front of your foot? two holes is live pto.. one hole it transmission pto..

After a little more scraping I found the model #.
It wasn"t on the flat milled area of the bell housing it was above on the rough casting. The number i found is CU22B. Can anyone tell me what all that stands for, or let me know a web site to look it up. All the lists i found only go to 1974. Thanks again. All the numbers I found are:
CU22B
7F23B
C545544

the cu22b I think is utility, gasser, trans 540 pto.. etc. though I'm going from memory for the x600 codes.

dan8295 Hello,

Congratulations on your first tractor. As you can see the old story "I was told", may not be correctly or accurately describing the unit in question. This is why the Pin Plate Decal and the numbers that are Stamped into the unit are critical in this explanation.

Based upon your numbers they work out to be a Ford Industrial model 335, gas engine with Transmission 540 pto with a 6F x 2R transmission.

The unit was assembled on June 23, 1977. Your Unit number and Serial Number both correspond to a 1977 year.

Let us know how you like this unit and how it operates.

Be safe.

That sounds like you nailed it. When I found some pictures of a 335 I could see it looked the same. So much for the info I got. Regardless, I don't think I did too bad for the price as long as everything else he told me turns out true. It seems to run good but will need a little TLC. Thanks again for your help.
