Ford 3600 - Tubes?

Think I have tubes on the rear on my 1981 3600? I have a leaky valve. I replaced the core today and it stopped by I'm guessing this may not be the last of it.

It is likely you have tubes. Post a picture of the stem so we can see what you see, otherwise any answer is like mine, just a guess.

Those are stems of tubes. The stem in your second picture is missing the plastic/nylon nut that threads on the outside of the stem and secures the tube stem in the rim hole. With the air pressure out of the tube, you need to be careful that you don't break the tube free from the rim and have the stem drop inside the rim. You have removed the core housing from the stem. There is a common Schrader valve inside the core housing. that can be replaced.
 
Thank you. I did replace the core with a " Slime " brand valve. The plastic nut has deteriorated. The soapy water test had a leak at the base of the stem when I started to fill it up with little pressure. I could not find a leak once I got 10 lbs or so in it? I guess time will tell if it holds.

It is not unusual to see bubbles if you do a leak test around a tube stem when airing a deflated tube up. When the air is released from the tube it settles away from the tire casing. As you refill the tube it expands back out tight to the tire casing. The bubbles you see in this case is the air from the gap between the tire and tube being forced out. Depending how well the tire is sealed to the rim, and the tube stem is sealed at the hole in the rim this could go away in a couple minutes, or it could take longer. Best to recheck tires a few hours later or the next day, if it is still bubbling then, you may have a problem.

I always tell myself that, but usually it keeps right on bubbling, because there is an actual leak.

Closing out this thread. Thanks for the insights gents. Looks like I got away with a core replacement. 24 hrs later and still holding where I left it.
