Ford 3910 vs 4610

Howdy everyone,

New to the forum and had a question or five. To start, I am looking at a few old tractors with FELs in the area and wanted to get everyone take. I am looking at 1988 3910 and a 1985 4610. Both are in the 1300 hour range, both seem to be in about the same shape and decently priced (actually, the 3910 is an excellent price, the 4610 is a good price). What are some of the things to know about each, check on each, avoid about each? I had a 3600 with a FEL for many years that belonged to my dad. It was never exactly right but it ran fine. It has been gone for 15 years or so and recently I decided it was time for a replacement. I am sure there are questions you might ask so please fire away. I am looking to have atleast 40HP, be able to some light loader work, run a disc or tiller. Normal messing around our small farm here in South Texas. Thanks in advance y'all!

First question I would ask is what do the tractors have for hydraulics? Does either (or both) have an engine mounted pump and the deluxe remote valve package? That feature alone can make a big difference in loader operation.

There are 2 versions of the 4610, the standard all purpose model with heavy duty straight front axle, and the SU model with lighter sweep back axle like the 3910
Only difference between the 3910 and 4610SU is the 4610’s larger more powerful engine, neither of these are ideal loader tractors in my opinion
The 4610 all purpose with straight front axle makes it a good loader tractor
Also look to see if the loaders are quick attach mount making the loader easy to remove
