Ford 4000 1964

Hello, I ran across a ford model 4000 about a 1964
Year model with the high and low push shifter on it.
Bought it from man said he bought it new in tazzwell tenn. runs great! How rare are these 4000, in the old body style light grey and blue?

"Rare" as compared to what? The 4 cylinder Ford 4000 series tractor, built between 1962 and 1965 numbered about 40,000. They were nearly identical to the 800/900 series, the only difference being minor sheet metal and the blue and grey paint. All added up, the 800/900 series and the 4000 series numbered about 160,000. The name "Ford" should provide a hint. Did Ford ever do anything in a small way? Case in point. The Willow Run Plant in Michigan. The best estimate of aviation experts was one B24 bomber per day. Ford rolled out one an hour. 15,000,000 Model Ts. etc, etc, etc. But, It was one of the best tractors of it's day and there will be Ford tractors running 100 years from now. The best steel in the world. Ingeniously/brilliantly designed. Simple, easy to understand and maintain and they have what it takes to be a great tractor. Good electrics, superb hydraulics, three point hitch better than any, bullet proof engines, parts galore (because they made so many and they last so long), easy to drive, low slung so they don't roll easily, and, oh, one thing, if it has a "Select-O-Speed" transmission on it, put on your track shoes and run away as fast as you can.

The early model 4 cylinder 4000 tractors are not at all rare.

Moreover, the S-O-S transmissions used in these models are just about bullet proof with even irregular maintenance.

Hello again.

Mine is no regular 4000 it is a row crop style wide front 4000 it sets up high from the ground. As far as the selecto-speed "no way"! It's regular up down shift ha. I was told by good friend to stay away from te selecto speed trannys /:as they were terrible to mess up if not treated good by the owner.
