ford 4000 draft / position control

i mounted a rear blade to the tractor to plow the snow we had last week, the control lever is up in position control. in this setting does the 3 point hydraulics have no down pressure when letting the blade down? i noticed it just lay on the snow and not push through it to the road level. i did not try the draft setting or down position yet.

Ford 3 point hydraulics do not have down pressure- only gravity.

To add to what Stevob671 said, I'm not aware of any 3-point, from any manufacturer, that has down pressure.

Some Belarus models have down pressure, at least mine does. Not sure why though..

Yes I had a Belarus back in the 80's that had down pressure.
Works great with a post hole digger or breaking a compact gravel driveway with a box scraper.
You just have to watch it because it will push down so hard you will loose traction.

I think John Deere now has it as a option on some compacts.

i guess i read somplace that compact tractors did not have power down but that full size tractors did use pressure down. so if i try to clear hard packed dirt on my cabin road it is only the weight of the plow that will dig into the banks on the side of the road? i was planning on pulling dirt down from the bank to fill in trenches dug by the water running down the long very steep mountain road. since my last post i have purchased a 10 york brand rake and this rear plow blade i found lay in an old farm field up the road.

This one was bought new in '94, model 572 4WD with loader, and 1020 actual hours. Was used by a pole barn builder for lifting rafters and boring post holes. Reminds me of American tractors built in the '50s..

If it not power down will it hold it down while moving?

Nope, it may float up. Depends how heavy the tool is, or how aggressive tool is digging in.

No, which is one reason why one should never pull a substantial trailer from a three point mounted hitch (without stay control bars) unless one NEVER goes downhill.

No down pressure or holding pressure on 3 point hitch.
If the 3 point had ether it could lift the tractors back wheels off the ground causing loose of traction or control.
If the blade has a good cutting edge it'll dig in to pull the soil.
On really hard ground or when using a light weight blade I've added weights to the back of the blade to make it heavier.
