Ford 4000 SOS leaking

Awhile back I posted a question about my Ford 4000 leaking fluid from the transmission into the hydraulic system. I put in a new oil pressure sensor and that didn't work although the light is coming on. I split the tractor Saturday morning, removed the seals and got the numbers out of the parts manual. Took the numbers to NAPA and they cross referenced them to CR numbers but didn't have the seals in stock. Took the CR numbers to O'Reilly's and they cross refenced them to National numbers and they had the seals. Installed the seals eventually drove it out the door Saturday night. No leaks. What a great day! Everything went right. I did have to make the gasket that goes between the transmission and the cover plate. Anyone had a day go this good? Never happened to me before and I'm on my 93rd tractor.

Todd,
Most of us here would have whined about the leak, then made a few posts about looking for seals and making the fix. Then afterwards a few pics of the process.
You can't argue with success. Especially when it happens in a day.
Great post.

It's good that you posted this message. My Ford 4000 transmission fluid is leaking, too. Was it hard to split the tractor to replace the seal?

Not hard to split. Just follow the directions in the IT manual. Worst part was making the gasket. If you are careful you can remove the transmission cover plate without damaging it. If you want the numbers for the seals, let me know.

Todd,

Yes, please give me the number for the seal. I may want to split my tractor anytime soon. Do you need two jacks to jack up both the front and rear befor split it up?

yes you need two jacks.
Seal numbers:
upper: Ford: 314213
CR: 13738
National: 481181N
lower: Ford: 313734
CR: 16054
National: 9568
Be careful not rip the gaskets or you will have to make the inner one and buy the one between the tramsission housing and the hydraulic housing. Good luck!

Todd,

I assume the light goes out once you're running?
