Ford 4000 stabilizer bars

Looking for good but affordable stabilizer bars for ford 4000 to steady my tiller. I saw Destroked had posted a photo with some nice ones. If anyone has suggestions and photos how mounted, that would be great

You have to remember there several different wat they mount depending on model of your 4000. Blue tractors take a different setup and row crop take different than the standard utility type. So need full model to help you. I think at least 8 different setups possibly more for a Ford 4000

The photo you probably saw was the factory stabilizers on a 4630 I was working on

They offer aftermarket kits on this site
Cheap kinda goes out the window but the time you purchase the stabilizers and the brackets

Didn t find much looking in the 4000 section but did get a good selection looking in the 4610 section
These parts are the same for both models

I have the chain system on one tractor and like them quit well. I put anti seize on the threads to help prevent them from freezing up
These are cheaper than the bar system

I installed the bar style on the 5600, not as good as the factory bars on the 6610 but they work quit well

Cost of the bars is a good bit more than the chain system but I do like the ability to pin the lift arms out away from a pto drive line when they are not in use

What version of 4000 is your tractor, a 4 cylinder engine used up to 1964 and would be the same as a 800 or 600 series if utility version of 700 or 900 if row crop version. Then the 3 cylinder version built 1965 and up and the SU versionor the 4100 high utility or the 4300 row crop version. Every one takes a different style. And then I think there is a plain 4000 that is higher built than the SU version but not as high as the 4100 that I had 2 of. So talking 6 different styles to fit all the different 4000 series models.

I nave the chain but want the ones that keep tiller straight and

Great thanks for the photo. I just have the inside chains. I like the outside chain idea. How is it attached below the axle? Do you still
purchase the brackets in the photo you sent. Those square u-bolts are expensive too and I would need one on each side as I only have one on
each fender now.

I just put these on my 4000 should have done it a long time ago. I bought a 5/8" carbide bit and drilled further out on the left arms for less flexing with my 3 point back hoe.

If you have the factory stabilizer brackets you could make them work
Otherwise you ll need the brackets in the photos
One could make a top plate out of 5/8 or 3/4 with holes drilled for bolts

Nice. So I figure about $190- $260 for everything chain
stabilizers vs bar style. Sound about right

I did something a little different from the others.

This is on a 1978 4600.
I got the chains at TSC last year for $99. I think they are 109 for the pair now.
The brackets are the same. I got these off of Amazon.
I have a roll bar. I had to modify the brackets to fit.
These work to keep my 6 foot brush hog in line.

That's what I bought for my 3000.....absolutely marvelous. That and Pat's Quick Hitches and I am in hog heaven. I think I got them
off ebay for a decent price and probably free shipping.

I do NOT use the outside sway chains if at all possible.

They are heavy, and when the arms are disconnected, they pull the arms out... and into the tire cleats. If you dont have inside chains set to limit this.. as in the newer tractors, the arms end up tearing chucks out of the tire cleats. In two cases the outside sway chains broke the mounting ears off the the axle trumpets where the bottom arms mount, causing 1000s of dollars damage on the 7710 tractors that I see come through. Therefore you must always tie your bottom arms to keep them from swinging out. Even a turn can put the implement out,, into the tire cleats.

AND the turnbuckles are almost always rusted, frozen and cant be adjusted anyway. What a horrible piece of poo!!!!!

I consider these the most dangerous and dumbest thing a ford engineer ever put on a tractor.

Mike, what are the rear of those chains attached to? I can't quite see. Did you have to drill out the lift arm?

This is Keith.
My 4600 has the extendable link ends. There is a pin that runs thru the arms. I replaced that pin with a bolt (3/4 by 4" GR 8).
That is what I attached the ends to.
