Ford 4000 SU

I have a Ford 4000 SU 3 cylinder gas, it has been a little cold natured since I got it but the other day it just died. It will crank with the choke pulled out and the throttle in idle position and it will
just purr like a kitten in that position. but if you push in the choke or pull down on the throttle it dies. my first thought was fuel delivery so I cleaned everything lines, pump, carb, filter, sediment
bowl. Did not change a thing. so I bought a standard carb rebuild kit and a new fuel pump and did that - still the same thing. Any thoughts?

sounds like there may be a vacuum leak at the gasket where the carb meets the intake manifold or at the intake manifold gasket itself. You could try spraying starting fluid around that area while it's running, and if the rpm's increase when you spray a particular spot then that's where it's leaking.

I can't explain why but I just fixed a 8N and my brothers 3400 did the same thing, replacing the coil fixed both tractors.
Check to see if it has a good hot white to blue spark.
Coil or condenser could be going bad.

Well I fixed this weekend. It was a fuel delivery problem. First the new Needle valve was sticking so I replaced it with the old one - that helped but did not fix it. Then I just had to throw away the instructions that came with the rebuild kit and adjust the floats as high as I could and still get them to function. Now it is running like a top. Thanks for all the input.
