My injector pump is leaking fuel pretty bad. I want to have it rebuilt but never missed with one. I am sure it has to be timed and should only take it off with everything lined up. I have rebuilt JD 2 cyl motors but never missed with diesels before. Is this job fairly easy or is the any do's and dont's I should know about. Thanks in advance

The pump mounting flange is indexed to a numerical scale on the front adapter plate. Note the timing setting, it is probably 0 degrees. Remove the low and high pressure lines, shutoff cable and throttle linkage. Drain the coolant and remove the lower rad hose. Remove the pump drive cover from the front side of the timing cover. Remove three bolts holding the gear to the pump and three bolts holding the pump housing to the front adapter plate. The gear can't jump time with the timing cover installed, and the pump drive adapter has a slot to accept a rollpin in the drive gear. Pump to drive gear can only be timed one way if the rollpin is properly indexed. Set the static timing mark on the pump mount flange as you found it.
