I have a Ford 4000 (3 cylinder gas) with the
hydraulic piston pump that is mounted on the left
side of the engine. I recently repaired the
leaking oil line from the pump to the right rear
side of the tractor. Repair went well no leaks.
The three point when being raised chatters. This
did this before and after the compression fitting replacement. Oil level is correct and also with
the NH recommended oil. Number on the trans is C 7
NH 7006 AK Engine number is C 7NH 6015 AK I have
the IT manual but all the trouble shooting covers
is if the three point won't lift under load. I did
bleed the hydraulic system suspecting the possibility of air in the system. Any help is
greatly appreciated, Terry

I have a similar situation. I drained out the UTF from the diff case to replace some seals. When I put the UTF back in and started it up, there was a shuddering in the 3-point when lifting. It has plenty of lift power, but still shudders. I've been told it may improve on it's own, but it isn't going away.

I will say that even before the UTF change, the lift would not stay up after shut-off, so there may be some issue with the O-ring or filter or something.

Hope you find the answer, then maybe I will too.

I saw your post the other day on this and wondered what type of a 3 cyl 4000 you actually have. Though not in this case but in other cases it would help if you told us what kind of a 4000 you actually have since when you say 4000 it is assumed you have a 4100 or standard ag model tractor. The confusion here is that a standard ag model or 4100 would not have a side mounted pump. It would have a pump mounted in the rear end of the tractor.
So if you can, tell us what exactly you have.
Some possibilities are a 4110, 4400, 4500, 4410 or a ag model with an SOS transmission. All of those would have a side mounted pump. I suppose Ford may have built a 4100 with transmission - or no pto but it would be rather uncommon.

As for the pump, it is not uncommon for it to chatter for a little while while you get the last of the air out of the line. I am assuming you have the type of suction line that just slips in to the pump. Did you check to see if that has a good seal? If I have had that style pump off I always wash off both the male and female parts of that connection with lacquer thinner thin add a SMALL amount of silicone to the pipe before reinserting it. The same type of slip in fitting is on the other end of that pipe too btw so you might have to check, clean, reinsert that end too.
I have had them that took an hour of driving/working/use before they quit chattering.
If it will not stop chattering then that is indicative of a failed pump and it's time to put a pressure guage on it to see what pressure it is producing. Should read around 2500 if operating correctly. Rebuild kit for a pump is readilly available. They sell them here on this site. Suggest you buy pump parts for a 3000 as a listing for a 4000 side pump is apt to get you parts for a Prior (pre 65 4 cyl) model.
Sorry so long...

Like Dog said, cycle it till you get the air out. The chattering should (will) stop. Chattering is nothing more than trapped air in an environment that can't stand compression which air can do.
