Hey all, have an old fishing buddy thats movin to town wanting to part with his tractor. I haven't been to look at it yet, but he says it runs fine with no issues. He's lookin for around 3k and he has a 5 ft hog, 2 bottom plow, back blade and a pick up disk. I really don't know much about this model of tractor so I figured I would ask ya'll. Is it a fair price or should I run the other way?

TYVM for your opinions

Mike

Value will depend upon many things, most importantly transmission, tires, and 3 or 4 cylinder model. If 3 cylinder, gasoline or diesel?

Sorry guys, I believe he said it was a 4 cyl. gasser

Again, we will need to know transmission and condition of tires, etc., to be more precise but with the equipment listed, $3K sounds like a steal from the available information.

a 4 cyl 4000 at 3000$ with mower and plow is likely a good deal, even if a 4spd or an SOS tranny, assuming all gears work, and she walks and talks and tires are fair or better.

OK guys, went to see it yesterday afternoon.

metal looks good, no rust
tires are a bit tired but not too bad
standard 4 speed
guages don't work except for temp guage
has a rebuilt carb (OEM)

He says that it burns ~1/2 quart per two hours bush hogging and that the genny doesn't charge. He has put a 12v bat in it and charges it every now and then.

Other than that he says its been a good tractor.

I really don't have to have this tractor but, I have acquired about another 4 acres next to my mom and thought it would be a nice back-up for my '52 8N.

sounds like a very fair price
the few problems don't sound like a deal killer
If you buy it, I bet the 'back-up' tractor will probably
swap the other way...........

With a 4 speed transmission, it cannot have live PTO.

It also sounds like the engine is tired.

Still, if the equipment is decent, it sounds like a good deal.

Thx for the opinions guys.

From what the owner said, it has a live PTO, but then again I do not know much about this model.

From the pictures I have been viewing, it doesn't have the lever on the right of the wheel for the select o speed. He said you had to pull up (or push down, cant remember) the shifter to get it in gear. I probably said that all wrong so correct me.

thx again

Mike

If it has a four forward speed transmission as stated below, it CANNOT have live PTO but this is inconsistent with your statement that one must push down or pull up on the shifter to change gears.

The five speed transmission has a a vertical gate shifter and was available with or without live PTO.
