Ford 420 engine swapped out

I bought a 420 in an auction, the engine has been swapped out. It has a blue engine but no idea what it is, 183 or ? I need to pull the head of to
send to the machine shop but don't know what rebuild kit to buy. Is there a casting number on the block that would identify what it is or anything
else anyone can think of that could help me identify the engine. Its definitely diesel, 3 cylinder, CAV injector pump.

The 420 replaced the 3550 and was made from 1975-1978. It used a 175 gas engine, or 183 diesel engine. The model prefix for the 420 in the stamped model number was KA1 or KA2, depending on exactly when it was assembled.

Andy_810 - Post the large raised casting number from the right side of the block. It should be something like D5NN6015AD or E2NN6015A or something like that. Also, down below that large raised casting number there should be a smaller stamped set of numbers. The first part which is the engine serial number, will consist of a single letter followed by a 6 digit number and off the right of that 4 to 6 character code with the first character being a numeral and the second character being a letter followed by 2 or 3 more characters. Post those numbers back here as well and we should be able to help you figure out what it is.

Could have had a BSD installed. Put several in when in dealership mostly in industrial units.

I'm not so sure you'll find the
traditional 6015 block casting code on all
Ford 3 cyl blocks. I went out and looked
at my 201 just to see where it was, didn't
see any. I hope I'm wrong because that's
a handy number to have.

Well, you need a kit, which implies that you are doing a complete rebuild, which dictates that you will take the block to an automotive machine shop for a boil-out and rodding out and complete inspection. The crank would also go there for inspection and polish. While they have these pieces there, they would evaluate whether or not it needs sleeves or rebore, which dictates what you need for pistons and rings, so in the course of this process they would ID the engine and offer to sell you what you need for cheaper than you could source it yourself, and you will be assured of all the parts coming together properly getting them from one source.

I found the numbers on the right side of the engine under the dip stick, that number matches a Ford tag on the left front of the valve cover. K450629,
Model 333 (made in the UK) part # 6007. On the tag it has a space for CID but its blank. I attached photos. I search the model 333 it shows a
Brazilian motor. This one clearly says made in UK.

Also search for BSD333 on the web, all kinds of rebuild parts. It's a 201 cid so you have a bonus over the original engine.

Wow, an upgrade from the 183 Cid. With that link I should be able to find what I need to do the valve job.
