Ford 4400

Im looking at buying a ford 4400 3cil diesel can any one give me some info on them ? Im new to ford tractors when were thay built how many hp are thay and whats a good price to pay in good runing condition also where thay a good tractor? any info would be grate thanks !!

Hi,
I owned a 4400 in the late 80's. It had a front-end loader on it. It was a great tractor. The 3-cyl. engine is hard to beat for economy and power. The diesel has 52 hp. As I recall, I gave around $4,500 for mine, used it for about 3 years, and sold it for the same price. If that same tractor has been taken care of, I might be willing to buy it back for the same money.

Other than the stuff that can be worn out on any 35+ year old tractor the biggest concern on a 4400 would be the power steering. They have a power assist type steering with a control valve mounted on the cylinder. The cylinder is mounted inside the front bolster. Worn bushings & pins can cause problems with this control valve and make it very hard to adjust. I've also heard that some the parts for this setup are no longer available. I have a '66 4400 and have not had any steering issues yet. The early '65 to '70 Ford 5000 ag tractor had the same steering setup. I paid $4000 for mine and it came with a very rough loader.
