Ford 4500 3rd function

I have a Ford 4500 with the 740 loader and need to add a 3rd function to power a single grapple cylinder.

Any suggestions on the most cost effective approach?

Does the 740 loader valve have power beyond capability?
My setup has the self-leveling valve also.

It depends on if the control valve that's on the loader can be setup for power beyond (I have a skid steer with a grapple so I hadn't need it on my loader/backhoe yet). I put a new spool valve on my 4500 that can be setup for a 3rd function.

If your loader control valve has power beyond plumb into it for the working pressure. T into the return line. If the valve doesnt have power beyond you should be able to T into the pressure line for the loader control valve. The 3rd function valve will get tied into the electrical system. Outlets go to a bracket that holds the quick connects on front of loader arms.

The third function valve uses a solenoid. Needs 12 volts to work. On most it has a rocker switch built into a handle that goes onto the loader control handle.

Maybe on modern tractors and skid steers. The 4500 had no such switch built into the handle. It didn't even have a single handle. It had two separate levers, one for the lift cylinder and one for the bucket curl. The OP sounded like he wanted to use a manually controlled valve to control the third function.

Due to age of machine, It would be difficult to find a power beyond for that valve.. OR , it already has one to operate a backhoe.. You can't add
another function if the power beyond is already being used.. What I would suggest is to get a separate single spool valve with ample capacity [
25 to 30 GPM] with a power beyond sleeve in it. Hose your feed from the pump to the single spool valve inlet. then hose from the power beyond out
let to your main loader control valve. That system is an open center hydraulic circuit. Meaning that oil must flow at all times unless a function
is selected. Then oil flow stops or slows to operate any given circuit. If you Tee a valve into the circuit , one valve will flow oil to sump
when you try to operate the other valve. The only way that will work is on a closed center hydraulic system [ piston pump]..

Yes, that one should work, but you would need to also purchase the Power Beyond Hydraulic Connector Sleeve that's further down that same page. The Power Beyond Sleeve would replace the plug that is pictured in the top of the valve to give you the actual Power Beyond functionality. Disconnect the line currently powering the loader from the loader control valve and connect it into the Power In Port of that single spool valve, then connect the Power Beyond Spool Port to the Power In Port of the loader control valve, and finally connect the Return port of that single spool valve to a Tee fitting in the return line from the loader control valve.
