How hard would it be to add pto to a ford 4500 with a 8spd transmission and 3 pt? Might be looking at a tractor with a bad motor.
Thank you, I know it isn’t practical to do, but since there is a machine closer to me.(quoted from post at 10:14:38 02/16/19) That?s the only practical way.
He tractor that I’m looking at I’m guessing has the pump on the side of the engine (I can’t see the pump, but I see two lines on the right side of the steering sector that are probably going to the pump like on a 3000).(quoted from post at 14:41:38 02/16/19)
Does the 4500 have the hydraulic pump on the side of the engine like a 3000 or is it located in the right side of the axle housing?
It makes a big difference.
My 4500 didn't have a pto or 3 point, because of that it not only didn't have any of the pto components in the rear axle, it also didn't have the shafts or gears inside the transmission that operates the pto.
I added 3 point by installing the engine mounted pump, lines and valve from a 4000 with SOS trans, but the parts needed to install a pto cost to much.
If the 4500 your looking at has the hydraulic pump in the rear axle all of the pto drive components are already in the trans and you'll only need the components in the rear axle.
Is there a difference on transmission? If I was to get any 8spd transmission (lets say) from a 3 cyl 4000 or 3000 (don't know if that would work) and I bolted up a rear end from a independent pto, would that work?(quoted from post at 03:13:28 02/17/19)
That means there's likely no gears or shafts inside the trans to drive a pto.
You would need everything from a non independent pto 4000 for it to work with that hydraulic system. Trans driven pto's on 4000's are rare, their listed in the parts book but I've never seen one.
To put a independent pto in the tractor you'll need a different pressure plate, all of the pto components, plus convert the hydraulics to the axle mounted pump style.
If you really what or need a pto system on the tractor you have, finding a used trans and axle center section from a salvage yard or purchasing a complete non running tractor that has everything would be the best way to go.
Only if there were 4000 tractors with bad motors near me... The closest cheap tractor (gas, no spark) is in Pennsylvania.(quoted from post at 04:25:26 02/17/19) I believe the output ratios on the 2/4000s
are different. 4000 output would be much
faster because it has double reduction
rear end.
