I have a new to me 4600. Doing fluid
changes I discovered a leaking seal on
the right brake. Looking at parts
breakdown it is the one the accuating rod
goes through. IT shop manual indicates
you have to pull the axle, just wondering
if there is another way?

I don't know what you are looking at in the IT manual but the brake rod seal is replaced from the out side and pulling the axle would be a waste of time.

Its been a long time ago but I have replaced both the thru housing shaft seals and also the shift rod boots on the bell housings of similar Ford tractors.

Neither job was difficult for an amateur and no complicated removals were required other than just having to drain the sump oil on the thru shaft repairs......no biggie, was probably time to do it anyway.

I had a 4600 and it was just a larger, noisier version of the same tractors.

The oil is leaking out of the hole in the casting that the accuating rod goes into.

Just remove the adjusting clevis from the rod, remove the clip and washer and pop the seal out with a screw driver then install the new seal and install the other parts.
