Hello, I have a worker that put 10w30 motor oil in a Ford 4610. It is supposed to be 134 Oil. Some friend told him it was the same. Anyway, the front loader doesn't go up all the way. My question is if I drain the oil out and refill it with the correct oil, will the problem be resolved? or Do I have to some how plow out all the 10w30 oil from the tractor? I don't think all of the oil will drain out. So, what's the fix? Any thoughts? Thanks

Here's the deal. If it was in a plain hyd sump only.. likely no issues whatsoever. If it's in a shared sump where the diffy shares the hyd oil.. then it REALLY REALLY needs the correct oil as that oil also lubes the rear end gears.

If it was me.. and a shared sump, I'd drain and refill.

If that machine has a seperate hyd sump.. I wouldn't worry about it as much.. atf, utf, pow steering, plain hyd oil.. etc.. even that 10w30 or even 30w oil will all run thru the pump and make the rams extend.. at issue is whether it is a shared sump.. if so.. get the correct oil in there asap.

the 10w30 oil is not effecting the extended length of the ram, unless you are low on oil or something.

I'm not familiar with that machine so can't say if it has common sump or not.

Drain what you can get out, refill to the proper level with 134D or equivalent.Don't worry about what you can't get out. Any short term functionality problems are not related to the 10W-30 oil.

how much did he put in??

other than the fact it has detergents, it should not hurt.. If put a lot in, drain it and replace.

if he put in a quart, I wouldnt do anything.

The detergents will clean the system and could cause some leaking on older seals so if it were more than a quart, I would be concerned a bit about leaks .

as to not going all the way up.. low fluid, or worn out pump, or bad releif valve. if low fluid it will cycle the air out and fix it self.. it worn out pump, it will work better cold when you first start it and quickly go downhill from there.

Hello. He put in a little over 2 gallon. The information you have provided has been great and I will share it with him on Monday. What do you think with over 2 gallon put in? Hmmmmm

I believe it is shared, will double check with him. Thanks for info. We will drain and put correct oil in immediately. Once again thanks for your input.

You should replace it with 134D... but in the short term I'd probably just take note if the brakes chatter or not. If they chatter, replace the oil immediately. If they don't.... replace at your convienence.

Thanks. I think we will replace as fast as possible. My concern was the 10w30 doing some kind of internal damage or having to make sure I had to drain all the 10w30 oil out of the system. It appears that It shouldn"t do any damage if I fix the problem in a timely matter and I shouldn"t have to worry about getting every little bit of the 10w30 oil out. I thank you for your input. If you have any more thoughts please let me know.

like rick said.. don't have to get every last drop out.. just drain and refill with correct fluid.

The only real concern I'd have would be the brakes. If the oil is lacking in friction modifier the brake will chatter... and will wear fairly rapidly.
Seals could be an issue... but not a big one to my thinking.
