Ford 5000 Hydraulic issues

I have a 68 ford 5000 and the hydraulics
are giving me trouble. When it first
starts the hydraulics and pto work as
they should. After awhile of running the
pto will stop and hydraulics will stop
responding. If I shut it down, remove the
plug on the hydraulic pump cover and
bypass plug, start and let it pump flood
out then close it up the pto and
hydraulics will start working for awhile.
Any ideas?

Assuming BOTH the high pressure hydraulics fail as well as the pto....................Would... pull and replace the pump and inspect the intake pipe. Suspect overly worn out pump or crack in intake/suction pipe. The pto runs off the low 160lb part of the pump and the hydraulics run off the high pressure 2300 lb side of the SAME pump. Its not unusual to find a worn out pump on a 5000. If its just the pto only,, could be the line going to the pto valve or pto clutch system needed attention.

Thanks for the information, didn't know the pressure amounts. I pulled everything apart and the pump as well. The pickup filter was packed with pto clutch debris.(replaced the clutches, pickup, valve, and return a few months ago) pump doesn't show any wear, some worn o rings bit should still have sealed. Hoping it is the pickup. Got won't to let go of $500.

I had a similar problem on a 67 5000 years ago. Finally pulled the cap off center section and it was leaking internally at the pump pressure passage running in the housing wall. There was a bunch of RTV smeared around the gasket where previous owner had made a "temp" repair.

I tore the pump apart and notice an the
seals was worn. Had to make a temp repair
like that to to get through till the
parts come in.
