Ford 5000 oil change

I just did an oil change on my ford 5000,
The MandW sticker states to prefill the turbo filter
So i tried that, but it wouldn't fill up,,seems like there's a valve inside or something...

i did prefill the engine oil filter.
And put a total of 8qt of oil in
Now the dipsticks shows approx an inch above the full mark.

I'm somewhat confused, because i understood that i would need at least 8qt, probably 9 because of the turbo filter

You didn't say if you've actually turned the engine yet. Did you spin the engine with the starter to fill the turbo filter? Is it showing an inch high after you turned it enough to fill the turbo filter?

no i haven't cranked it at all yet, you're saying i should just crank it over a few times?

Yes, the proper M&W filter has a restriction type valve in the center hole. Just do as fordfarmer said and you be fine. Also which injection pump does your tractor have? If it has the inline Simms pump did you also change the oil in it? They get missed alot it seems as they have their own oil for lubrication.

Yeah it's the Simms, glad you mentioned that, somewhere else on this forum i was recommended the same thing, but i actually had completely forgotten about it
