Ford 5000 steering cylider

What I have: 1967 Ford 5000 with 772 Loader

Trouble: The steering is hard to turn if not in motion. When wheels are off of the ground and the tractor is running they would pulse back and forth. Once out of the "neutral" position would turn all one way or the other.

The book says major leak in the cylinder or control.

What I"ve done: I bought a kit and rebuilt the cylider and while I was in there I replaced the bushings in the arm as well.

REMAINING TROUBLE: The tractor is easy to steer completely in the right direction but halfway out of the neutral position to the left I lose power. I adjusted the stops according to the book.

What I did notice is that both the cylinder and the control valve block both have steps worn in them. The stop in the left direction is almost all the way out (no stop left).

Has anyone ever encountered this? I"m guessing that I wasted my time rebuilding the cylinder because it is worn out? Any insight would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Bern, who is a long time Ford tractor mechanic and posts here occasionally had this to say about the power steering on the early 5000's in a post from several days ago. Maybe he will respond.

Thanks; I'm in the process of checking out a used one off of a selectospeed. The guy tells me there is only 1000 hrs on it. Hopefully this one will work.
