Ford 5000 toplink size

My ford 5000 came without a toplink
Well sort of... at the auction where i got the tractor there was a Ford toplink at another lot, i was of the assumption that this belonged to it, so i brought that too.

However...the Ford toplink has 5/8" hole on the swiveling end
And 3/4" on the other end (this end will not fit on my tractor,its too wide)

But the tractor has 1" hole diameter for the toplink pin(3 holes for draft control)

Am i missing something here?

I'm just using an aftermarket toplink for now with 3/4" bolt, but that's not ideal, don't want to wear out the 1" holes

That isn't a top link you bought that is a side draft link for the 3pt arms.

Go to your local TSC, Fleet Farm, etc and buy a Cat II top link.

The Blue one is lift link for 7-900 series Ford.

Oh um wow haha not sure how i didn't see that it looked similar the lift links on my tractor.

That first picture is not a toplink. It is the link that goes between the upper and lower lift arms.

I went to Rual King and purchased a few different top links to interchange between tractors, 5000 uses a cat 2 top link connection bit some of the equipment I use is cat 2 and others are cat 1
I have top links that are cat 2 on both ends and other top links that are cat 2 on one end and cat 1 on the other end
Universal top links are available with short or long barrels, you’ll need the longer barrel for a 5000

28" roughly, anyone else tried this on a 5000 before?
Its roughly $100 for a standard and $400 for hydraulic
But i haven't noticed that i can get one with different ends, wouldn't it work to use a cat 2 and put a bushing in for cat 1 implement?

I’ve never used a hydraulic top link but can see its advantage on occasion
A bushing will work most times but check your equipment, I have a few pieces that the wider cat 2 ball won’t fit in the equipments cat 1 slot
One could grind some off the sides of the cat 2 ball but over the years I’ve accumulated nearly a dozen top links to swap between the 7 operational tractors I have, so I just haven’t done that

I have both types and I only use the cat 1 hydraulic top link for lighter duty stuff on my Ford 4000

I use the hydraulic top link on a dirt scoop. I use it to tilt down to dig, then up to hold the dirt in the bucket.

I would never use one on a heavy piece of equipment. Things like a plow, a rotary mower or a planter.

Honestly, I never researched the cat 2 Hydraulic top link specs, but I wouldn't trust it like I said before.

Interesting, back home on the farm we never used anything but hydraulic toplinks
The custom guys(with much bigger tractors) also used them, seems to me extremely inconvenient to use a manual toplink, but i guess one might get used to it

I have been using hydraulic top links on 3000/4000 size tractors for at least 15 years and would cry if I had to go back to a hand/turnbuckle type.

I have a smaller cat 1/2 hyd top link on my little tractor. Love it.

Got a more cumbersome cat 2 top link with a fork lift attachment, I use it all the time on all sorts of stuff. Works great on my 5200. Tilt the disc mower, the 3pt sprayer, the row crop cultivator when I used one, etc.

I’m looking for a long cat 1/2 hyd top link for my Workmaster 75, think I saw one need to get off the internet and get around to ordering it.
