Ford 5000 - two questions

First, thanks to the responders about implement sway. I now have a set of turnbuckle stabilizer chains mounted.

Power steering problem on 1966 diesel. The power steering turns fine to the right but doesn"t work turning to the left. Any thoughts before I tear into the front end?

Also,
I replaced the instrument panel/guages after finding a mouse nest and shorted out wires behind it. Every thing works fine except I don"t find any wire for the fuel guage. Did all 1966 diesel 5000s have a fuel guage sensor? And if so, where would the wire connector be on the tank? I haven"t removed all the tin around the tank yet but can"t see any place to wire to.

Thanks,
Lee

Lee, the fuel sender unit is mounted in the top of the tank,, about 4 inches in front of the guages and on the right side.. there will be a small spade lug that sticks up and a short wire went from the fuel sender to the back of the guage... it would seem that 9 out of 10 mice prefer to nest in a ford....

you probably have the early power steering where everything is built under the radiator and the linkage wears a bit and causes this problem. there are no replacement parts for this steering as ford changed to a different system on the later tractors, so you will have to be creative in fixing your system. so do what it takes to tighten it up. hth.. bill

The fuel sender wire is not in the harness, but is a single conductor running directly from the proofmeter cluster to the sender, located just in front of the cluster. The sender is frame grounded.

Thanks for the reply RickB.

After digging more dirt off the top of the tank I found the sender. Next dilemma - there is only one spade plug that connected to the guage doesn't do anything.

There appears to be a second terminal on the sender that has the spade connector missing. The wiring diagram shows a ground as you indicated.

Where does the ground fasten to the frame?

Which terminal goes to the ground and which to the guage? or doesn't it matter.

Any thoughts on how to put a spade connector on the second terminal?

Thanks again,
Lee

Thanks sotxbill

See my response above regarding the fuel guage.

Looks like I better wait until after this crop season to tear into the power steering. It is the older model found under the radiator.
