Have ford 5000,pistons stuck removed head cleaned out rust and gunk.Everything smooth up top now . Saturated with pb blaster, of course still stuck. Will let it sit for a while.Assume only way to clean under piston means oil pan removal.Any tips or trick info would be appreciated. Thanks Greg.
Sadly it is an automatic...

Soaking with PB Blaster is about as good as it gets, but a lot depends on how bad it is stuck.

If it just has surface rust, as in sitting in a damp environment, you might get it loose. Once loose, clean
the rust out best you can with Scotch Bright, vacuum the residue out.

But if it sat with liquid water pooled in the cylinders, for a long time, it will probably have to come
apart. Chances are the rings will be stuck, or damaged in the process, and the cylinders pitted.

If you want to keep trying, bumping the starter is about the most efficient method. If that doesn't do it,
chances are it's beyond just breaking it loose.

Not sure if that has cylinder sleeves or not. If it does, might want to bolt the head back on, or bolt them
down with washers so they don't try to push out.

No sleeves on that engine. Sometimes you
can pull the starter and find a good prybar
that will get a bite on the flywheel ring
gear teeth. Get a little leverage on it
that way.

I just did my diesel 5000 that was froze up. I pulled the head and cleaned up as much as I could and then poured ATF in the bores. Then I
gave it a bump with a socket and breaker bar each time I walked by. After a couple days I got it to rock free and then discovered my lifters were
rusted in their bores. Soaked them with PB and they came loose.
Plan on dropping the pan which involves dropping the front axle. I then put 8" long pieces of 3/4" all thread in the front tub/ engine block holes
and slid the the tub away far enough to drop the pan.
I'm glad I dropped the pan because even though things were turning over freely, when I removed the Pistons I found the rings stuck. Hone, re-
ring, new rod bearings, had the head decked and valves ground. I put it back together and it made fire. Many other things yet to do; wiring,
mount radiator and body panels.

And if by "automatic" you mean it hats the Select-O-Speed, I have two 5000s and one 4000 with that tranny. I love them for haying and have
used them for plowing, discing as well. The one 5000 developed a problem in the direct drive clutch this season so when the fluid warmed up
I would lose half my gears; that is being addressed now. Don't fear it until you've used it; mine went almost ten years of my ownership before
losing that clutch.

That is one of those transmissions where it's best to have one knowledgeable guy using it and not having every Tom, Dick and Harry messing with it. My neighbor has a 4000 with SOS and was trained by the original owner on how to run it. He never has any issues. Another guy near here had one and thought he could "adjust it show it works right" and IIRC he messed it up to the point no one local could fix it.

For an engine that stuck why would you NOT take off the oil pan?

As for freeing the rings, there is no one magic elixir that works in all cases. I've heard of putting diesel in the open cylinder bores and lighting it on fire, then letting it burn out. Works best when the cylinder is at BDC. Just push the tractor outside first, please.

Just got done doing the bottom end on ours oil pump went bad installed new bearings and pump. Block tranny then unbolt front it will take some time .

The only way to free stuck rings is with a ring groove cleaner.
